CCCC rounds 20, 21 and 22. Leela with 3 draws.

As it seems 6 engines will fight hard for 5 places that lead to next stage provided that Stockfish, Houdini and Komodo will have no problems to get the 3 top places.
Leela, Shredder, Fire, Andscacs, Ethereal and Boot will fight for the other 5. Booot actually came out of nowhere to fight for getting in the top 8 and right now seems the outsider even though it has a good performance thus far. Leela and Shredder seem a bit safe right now but with 23 more rounds remaining everything is possible.

After Komodo beat Shredder in round 21, now the only undefeated engines are Stockfish, Komodo, Houdini and Leela.

ROUND 20
This round had Ethereal beating Andscacs and now it took its place on the 8th place where it gives the promotion.
Wasp after drawing Leela, managed to get a draw with white from Houdini also. Laser also with white drew its mighty opponent Stockfish also.

While Leela having black played with Shredder a sharp Sicilian Najdorf variation with opposite castles, Leela gave the exchange giving her Rook for a Bishop trying to attack but the defense of Shredder was spectacular and there was no way for Leela to continue the attack. But the exposed white King gave no way to Shredder to try for an advantage due to being an exchange up so game ended with 50 move rule shuffling.

In the meantime, Gull had a draw with Xiphos after just just 12 moves by 3 fold repetition. The same happened with Nirvana versus Senpai in the 8th round where they also had a draw after 12 moves by 3 fold repetition. But even more curious is that the 2 games are identical!!

229 Ethereal vs Andscacs 1-0
230 Crafty vs Fire 0-1
231 Fizbo vs Booot 1/2-1/2
232 Arasan vs Fritz 1/2-1/2
233 Gull vs Xiphos 1/2-1/2
234 Wasp vs Houdini 1/2-1/2
235 Ivanhoe vs Vajolet 1/2-1/2
236 Texel vs Komodo 0-1
237 Laser vs Stockfish 1/2-1/2
238 Shredder vs Lco 1/2-1/2
239 Nemorino vs Senpai 1-0
240 Pedone vs Nirvana 1-0

ROUND 21
Komodo beat Shredder and now Shredder is at 4th place along with Leela and Leela along with the top 3 are the only undefeated engines left.
Ethereal and Booot on the fight for top 8 had a draw between each other so nothing changed. But Andscacs with its win got closer to them by half point.

Leela on the other hand while her opening wasn’t that successful she outplayed Pedone and reached a won endgame. It wasn’t that trivial though and required some technique to win. Leela didn’t manage to do it so result was draw. This is the second, after Crafty, won endgame for Leela that didn’t manage to convert and take the full point.

ROUND 22
Shredder had another big opponent, the third in a row, Houdini this time. In another French Tarrasch in this tournament, many simplifications happened in the opening and middlegame didn’t have anything to offer. They quickly agreed to a draw.
Booot and Andscacs for the battle of 8th place were matched, and the result was a draw. Ethereal took advantage of it and won Xiphos so it’s now again 1 full point ahead of the 9th Andscacs.

Fizbo drew Vajolet and it is now the 9th consecutive draw of Fizbo! Furthermore Fizbo is right now on 1 win, 4 losses and 17 draws!! A real drawmaster on this tournament till now.

Leela had another draw, this time having black against Nemorino where in a Nimzo-Indian managed to equilize and even to be a little better, but didn’t manage to find something useful in the resulted position. The lack of central Pawns and lack of Pawn complexity in a game with open center does not fit Leela at all.
Even though after 22 rounds she is still undefeated like the top big 3, but has some problems to win against weaker engines in the consistent way the big 3 are doing it.
